Possibly first YouTube Brand Channel to use YouTube Direct (the name of the backend product to manage user generated contests on a Branded YouTube channel) as a work around for YouTube UGC, which requires a $200,000 YouTube media buy. We were able to work around the media buy, with a $50,000 YouTube media buy with existing production budget.
9 year old girl, The Pianist, and the Palm Engineer show case features of the Palm Pre 2 with demo videos. Standard and Rich Media banners featuring these characters and videos drove to the Palm Pre 2 site to complete the experience. Users were encouraged to upload their videos to share with the world how easy and intuitive the new Palm Pre 2 phone is through the YouTube Direct upload tool in the channel.
The Direct upload tool was built by our dev team using YouTube’s app engine, as our media budget wasn’t high enough to cover fill service access to the tool.
